From the Teton Valley to the beautiful Palisades Reservoir, through the Hoback Junction and Jackson Hole

Spring in Teton Valley is a season of renewal, where lush green landscapes, blooming wildflowers, and crisp mountain air set the stage for an unforgettable scenic drive. This loop, starting and ending in Victor, Idaho, takes you through Pine Creek Pass, Swan Valley, Palisades Reservoir, Alpine, Hoback Junction, and Jackson Hole, offering stunning views, short hikes, and delicious local stops along the way.

Start: Victor, Idaho

Before hitting the road, fuel up with a hearty breakfast at Butter Café in Victor. Their farm-to-table menu features fresh ingredients, and favorites like the smoked salmon toast or a classic breakfast burrito are perfect for a morning boost.

Victor to Pine Creek Pass (10 miles, 15 minutes)

Head west on ID-31 toward Pine Creek Pass, a winding mountain road lined with aspens and evergreens. In spring, the hillsides come alive with fresh greenery, and the scent of pine fills the air.

Pine Creek Pass to Swan Valley (16 miles, 20 minutes)

Continuing down the pass, you’ll arrive in Swan Valley, home to the renowned South Fork of the Snake River. A favorite among fly fishers, this scenic river offers breathtaking views of clear waters and surrounding mountains.

A must-stop in Swan Valley is Rainey Creek Country Store, famous for its square ice cream. Try the huckleberry or butter pecan before continuing on your drive.

Swan Valley to Palisades Reservoir (10 miles, 15 minutes)

A short drive east brings you to the stunning Palisades Reservoir, where towering peaks reflect off the clear blue water. There are several pull-off spots to take in the views or dip your feet in the cool mountain lake.

For a quick nature escape, Little Elk Creek Trail is a half-mile out-and-back hike leading to a tranquil creek surrounded by wildflowers. It’s an effortless and rewarding stop before continuing the journey.

Swan Valley - Idaho

Palisades Reservoir to Alpine (20 miles, 25 minutes)

Following US-26 East, you’ll reach the charming mountain town of Alpine, Wyoming, where the Snake River, Salt River, and Greys River converge. This small town is a hidden gem, offering picturesque landscapes and a peaceful atmosphere.

For lunch, stop at Bull Moose Saloon, a rustic restaurant with delicious bison burgers, fresh-cut fries, and a cozy Wyoming vibe. If you’re in the mood for a drink, their bar offers a fantastic selection of local craft beers.

Alpine to Hoback Junction (25 miles, 30 minutes)

Leaving Alpine, follow US-89 North along the scenic Snake River Canyon. This stretch of road is one of the most beautiful in the region, with towering canyon walls and the rushing Snake River flowing alongside.

Along the way, stop for a soak in the Astoria Hot Springs to relax and rejuvenate your body.

At Hoback Junction, where the Snake and Hoback Rivers meet, take a break at Hoback Market, a wonderful little stop for a coffee or snack before continuing toward Jackson.

Hoback Junction to Jackson Hole (14 miles, 20 minutes)

Heading north on US-191, the road winds through beautiful forested hills and valleys before reaching Jackson Hole, a lively mountain town known for its western charm, shopping, and great food.

Spend some time exploring Town Square, where you can walk under the famous elk antler arches and browse local boutiques. If you’re up for a short nature walk, Cache Creek Trail is just a mile outside town and offers an enjoyable stroll through aspen groves and meadows.

Idaho Scenic Drives - Rivers

Jackson Hole to Victor (25 miles, 35 minutes)

The final stretch of the journey takes you over Teton Pass (WY-22), a dramatic and scenic drive offering panoramic views of the Teton Range and Teton Valley below. Be vigilant for wildlife, as you can often spot moose and elk along this route.

As you descend into Victor, you’ll be welcomed by the quiet beauty of Teton Valley, making for a perfect end to an adventurous day.
