Of course, as the saying goes, “location, location, location,” and this hotel, located in the south end of Teton Valley Idaho, couldn’t ask for a better address. Teton Valley is approximately 450 square miles in size and affords some of the country’s most spectacular landscape. A family winter vacations included, is what Teton Springs Lodge & Spa specializes in and not simply during the winter season. This year-round resort, in very close proximity to Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, offers some of the country’s most dynamic recreation.
Time spent with the family on winter vacations take many forms at Teton Springs Lodge & Spa
This boutique hotel is the logical choice for mom, dad, and the kids because of its close proximity to one of the country’s best family-friendly resorts, Grand Targhee. This Teton Mountains based resort boasts over 3,000 acres of terrain and celebrated its 50th birthday last year, yet still remains extremely low key and not one of the better known resorts in the Northern Rockies.
A beautiful lodge in the Teton Valley for family winter adventure vacation
After all, the vision for this resort, then known as “Fred’s Mountain,” was conceived by the local residents in Teton Valley and surrounding area. While farming and agriculture ruled this valley’s economy during the spring and summer months, there wasn’t a lot of activities to keep the winter families engaged. This coupled with the lack of any economic engine critical to supporting these Idaho residents during the long winter season, the idea of building a ski resort was born. Consistent snowfall each year, and the near perfect terrain gracing Fred’s Mountain, all proved to be a winning combination. Thus, construction of the first lift and quaint lodge began in the year 1966, with the resort officially opening its doors to significant fanfare in 1969.
Grand Targhee employed valley residents who were eternally grateful for the support it provided the families in this local hamlet. Many jobs were instantly created, where there were none, and families flocked to the slopes for the terrific skiing this mountain provided. Snowmobilers who once graced this raw and ungroomed terrain were given other options in this rich mountainous area and those daring souls who for years were forced to hike to the top of the mountain for their ski turns, now had a fast and less strenuous trip to the summit.
Family winter vacations skiing Grande Targhee
Despite 50 years having passed since Grand Targhee opened its doors, the quaint nature of this resort has managed to retain its charm and extraordinary family-friendly vibe. It also remains one of the last great ski resorts in North America where you can still enjoy uncrowded slopes, which is naturally a comforting feeling to those accustomed to visiting once of the mega resorts who tend to crank out incredibly large number of skier days. Not Grand Targhee.
Yes, one could easily claim that Grand Targhee skiers enjoy lots of acreage all to themselves while making turns on one of the many trails dotting Fred’s Mountain. Teton Springs welcomes back returning guests year after year who wouldn’t dream of skiing or snowboarding anywhere else. Targhee is a true destination resort with everything a visitor could want or need relative to visitor services. Teton Springs Lodge guests also flock to this powder snow Mecca for their child friendly day care and Ski school programs. Parents with young children appreciate that Targhee’s Kids Club provide superb childcare and a huge attraction, infants are welcome!
