The Idaho Falls Regional Airport is 64 miles from Teton Springs but you’ll wish it was even further as your trip to Victor takes you through the gorgeous rolling hills of grain in eastern Idaho. Your first stop should be the scenic overlook for an initial glimpse of the South Fork of the Snake River as it weaves through rugged canyons below. The South Fork is assuredly one of Idaho’s most coveted and trout-filled rivers. You’ll head north on Highway 31 once you reach the lovely hamlet of Swan Valley, famous for its square ice-cream cones. Swan Valley also holds the distinction of being a major gateway for fly-fishing expeditions on the South Fork. Anglers from around the world travel to this slice of Idaho heaven to experience some of the best tailwater and dry fly fishing in the Lower 48.
While flying into Idaho Falls is a viable option when headed to Teton Valley, the Jackson Hole Airport seems to be the airport of choice for most Teton Springs visitors planning to visit Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks. After all, you’re treated to a wow Wyoming moment as the towering Teton Mountains come into view as you begin your descent. You’ll actually be landing in Grand Teton National Park, as this airport enjoys the unique distinction of being the only airport in the country located in a national park. Air service into Jackson Hole continues to serve significant markets given there are seven airlines serving this region in summer 2021, making this popular destination easily assessable and surprisingly affordable to reach from all points north, south, east & west.
The Jackson Hole Airport is only minutes from the town of Jackson and you’ll be tempted to stop at the National Museum of Wildlife Art that you pass on your way into this iconic western town. The Museum is home to over 5,000 works of art by some of the most prominent wildlife artists in the country. Perched on the hillside overlooking the Elk Refuge, this art lovers’ treasure is a dominant presence on this stellar landscape. However, save this excursion for another day as this is a stop worthy of more than a brief visit and if refueling is needed after a long travel day, the town of Jackson offers considerable choices guaranteed to please any palate. Shopping is also a huge draw for visitors to the town of Jackson and the selection of retail options can only be described as eclectic. It’s not all western wear and big silver buckles, and the jewelry options run the gamut from solid gold custom crafted Teton Mountain pendants to authentic one-of-a-kind turquoise baubles.
The final leg of the journey to your Gem State destination takes you over Teton Pass, and as you cross the border into eastern Idaho, you’ll sense almost immediately that you’ve entered a more tranquil setting. After all, Teton Valley Idaho is known as the “quiet side of the Tetons” and with good reason.
