Vacationers planning their visit to Teton Springs Resort inevitably ask when making their reservation, “what fun things for families to do in Victor & Driggs?” While they’re certainly aware that they’re about to embark on a visit to the world-famous Yellowstone-Teton region, they may not fully appreciate the myriad of other activities at their fingertips when they choose this recreation Mecca. Whether they book a one- or two-bedroom suite in the boutique Teton Springs Lodge & Spa, or opt for one of the many three-, four- or five-bedroom luxury mountain homes in this sprawling resort community, the opportunity for activities just steps from their accommodations will undoubtedly delight visitors of all ages.
Most Teton Springs guests begin their day at the Sage Café located on the ground floor of the Lodge. This delightful, warm & cozy eatery specializes in homemade breakfast options and specialty coffee drinks, as well as yummy lunch fair. Venturing out into the great outdoors, one simply has to open their eyes to be instantly inspired as unobstructed mountain views are incredibly beautiful in every direction.
The cool brisk summer mornings are perfect for a leisure hike on one of the many trails in the adjacent Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Wildlife viewing is optimum in this land of many uses and trails for all levels of hikers are at one’s disposal. Many guests also take pleasure in simply walking the grounds, or a quick spin on a bike in Teton Springs Resort.
Mom & dad may feel compelled to tee it up on the resort’s Byron Nelson designed 18-hole championship Headwaters Golf Club, a national recognized jewel and centerpiece of the private Bronze Buffalo Sporting Club. Or, the entire family can enjoy some friendly competition on the Par 3 course. However, often you can’t keep the kids out of the Junior Olympic Sized pool, surrounded by sunning decks and mountain vistas. Another family friendly activity that always gets top billing is a late afternoon horseback ride at one of Teton Valley’s most charming family-owned and operated ranches. The Linn Canyon Ranch, just minutes from Teton Springs, offers a sunset horseback ride on Teton Mountain trails followed by a gourmet dinner prepared and served by the delightful Linn family members. The Linn’s enjoy a rich history of ranching and guiding, on both sides of the Teton Mountains, and thrill guests with their stories of adventure in this once untamed environment.
Another activity that always ranks high for one of the fun things for families to do in Victor & Driggs involves a night of music, in downhill Victor specifically. “Music on Main” is a free concert series held every Thursday evening beginning in June with songs, dance & lively conversation peppered with children’s laughter filling the air. Music on Main, held in the Victor City Park through mid-August, has almost single handedly put the quaint town of Victor on the map. Folks arrive from all parts of this Yellowstone-Teton region to enjoy an impressive line-up of highly talented musicians from across the country. It’s a family affair, extraordinarily festive, and offers visitors an unadulterated glimpse of Americana at its best.
The Teton River careens through this beautiful valley and families are drawn to its banks with kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and rafts in tow. Local vendors in Driggs make it easy for everyone to enjoy this precious resource with their one-stop-shopping service offering rentals and drop-off and pick-up shuttle service to Teton River launching ramps. Adventuresome and fun things to do in Victor & Driggs can also include hot-air ballooning or a scenic airplane ride that soars above the valley floor. Teton Aviation Center at the Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport, located in the heart of Driggs, specialize in mountain flights. For many visitors to Teton Springs, soaring above the Teton Mountains is the highlight of their trip. It’s easy to see why.
Summer weather in the Tetons is notoriously close to perfect so you can almost count on a flight under blue, cloudless Idaho skies. On this scenic trek, you’ll experience the sheer magnificence of Teton Valley, dotted by vast swatches of farm land, the Teton & Big Hole Mountains that envelop the valley and the Teton River holding court on the west side. While many guests of Teton Springs have experienced the thrill of skiing nearby Grand Targhee Resort, they’re not prepared for how dramatic, rugged and intensely beautiful the backside of this resort is as the Tetons, reaching a dramatic 13,776 feet in the air, loom in the background. It truly takes your breath away.
